For those parents who are unsure about the need for a full evaluation, a consultation is a nice option. A consultation will provide you with a professional opinion regarding the need for additional assessment or intervention. Clinical judgment and informal assessment are used in conjunction with parent discussion and interaction with your child.
In general, consultations last no more than 1 hour.
At the end of a consultation, the clinician will inform you of her professional opinion. If therapy is likely warranted, she may suggest that a full assessment be completed. In other cases, she may indicate that no further assessment is needed. Therapy may or may not be recommended.
