The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children over the age of 2 engage with entertainment media and technology for no more than 1 or 2 hours per day. It is recommended that children under the age of 2 completely avoid screen time. The reason for this is that children’s brains are rapidly developing during the first two years of life. In an article titled, Media and Children, The American Academy of Pediatrics website states, “Studies have shown that excessive media use can lead to attention problems, school difficulties, sleep and eating disorders, and obesity.” It is known that children learn language best through interaction with their caregivers, and not technology devices.
